A Panorama of the Legal Recognition of Same-Sex Couples

Break Out Session Round #4

Description

From the late 1980s on, almost forty countries have already recognized same-sex couples through marriage, registered partnerships or similar family models. As LGBTI+ people claim recognition to freely enjoy their sexual orientation or gender identity as part of their personality, they seek for the protection of their family life. It includes not only the right to have their relationships legally recognized (rights at the horizontal level), but also the possibility of raising up children together as their own children (rights at the vertical level), whether one of the partners/spouses is the biological mother/father of the child or not.
