The winning images from an international photography competition will be exhibited in WorldPride Square during Copenhagen 2021 WorldPride and EuroGames, it has been announced today.
The winning images from All Out’s international LGBTI+ photography competition were unveiled yesterday in New York’s Times Square. And from 12-22 August, they will be exhibited on stands in Copenhagen’s Rådhuspladsen which will be transformed into WorldPride Square for the duration of the event.
All Out, a global movement for love and equality, sought submissions in three categories that tracked the lives and experiences of LGBTI+ people through the pandemic: Resisting, Supporting and Healing.
The winners and runners-up are as follows:
- Resisting:
- Winner: Cansu Yıldıran (Turkey)
- Runner-up: Younes Mohammad (Iraq)
- Runner-up: Erica Voget (Argentina)
- Supporting:
- Winner: Inesio Samuel (Mozambique) pictured above
- Runner-up: Emilia Martin in collaboration with Magdalena Ignaczak and Daria Jonc (Poland)
- Runner-up: Mike Kear (United Kingdom)
- Healing:

- Runner-up: Gøneja (Italy)
- Runner-up: Georgia Niara (Brazil)
Organisers say there is a synergy with WorldPride’s own journey from New York in 2019 to Copenhagen in 2021, and the exhibition moving between the same two cities.
Matt Beard, Executive Director of All Out said:
“We are excited and honoured to bring the All Out & MTV Photo Award to Copenhagen 2021 WorldPride and EuroGames for its global premier in a physical exhibition space. The stunning photographs will be on display in an outdoor exhibition in WorldPride Square in downtown Copenhagen, bringing to life the stories of LGBTI+ communities from around the world across three award categories – resisting, supporting and healing.”
The competition, which launched on May 17 (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia or IDAHOBIT Day), received over 1,800 photographs from 387 photographers from all over the world. The jurors of renowned artists overseeing the selection felt that the photos from these three photographers captured the beauty, resilience and vibrancy of LGBTI+ communities.
Eva Bøggild, Director of Culture and Identity for Copenhagen 2021, said:
“When Copenhagen took the WorldPride torch from New York City in a glorious celebration two years ago, no one could foresee the pandemic that the whole world would soon be facing. The All Out exhibition shows in the most impressive way how LGBTI+ communities around the world during the pandemic have found strength, shown solidarity and shared love and we are more than happy to make these powerful and beautiful images a part of Copenhagen 2021, and by choosing an outdoor exhibition on WorldPride Square being able to share it with all our guests.
The All Out exhibition now travelling from the unveiling at Times Square to the first physical showing at WorldPride Square is a manifestation of how all WorldPrides are connected in a global fight for equality and human rights for all.”
WorldPride Square will be open from 1200-2400 every day from Friday 13 August to Saturday 22 August. Find details in our app.
