It’s Torture not Therapy- Using anti-torture law to promote a global ban

Break Out Session Round #4

Description

In April 2020, the IRCT released an expert statement documenting how so-called conversion therapy violates the global prohibition of torture and ill-treatment. The expert statement has been used to in several initiatives promoting national and regional bans on the practice. The break-out session brings together key actors working against so-called conversion therapy to discuss how the global prohibition against torture and health expertise in documenting torture can help promote a global ban. It will be an open space for critical discussion and creating new connections and collaboration between global and local actors with different mandates relevant to the issue.
