The city of Malmö gets dressed in rainbow colours

Malmö dressed in rainbow colours

With just a few months left until WorldPride and EuroGames take over Malmö you can already now see the first signs of what to expect in August. Park benches are painted in rainbow colours and litter bins are tagged with love notes. And there is more to come.

Almost 100 benches in Malmö have got a new look to mark the Pride event coming up in August. The benches are located along busy streets and in parks in Malmö. The locations are Malmö’s central station, the main shopping street between Gustav Adolf’s square and Triangeln, in Kungsparken and Slottsparken, Pildammsparken, Folkets Park, on Möllevångstorget, Värnhemstorget, Fridhemstorget and in Rönneholmsparken, Öresundsparken and Cementparken.

“I hope that the benches will spread joy and make more people feel represented in their city”, said Clara Zetterlund, landscape architect at City of Malmö (Fastighets- och gatukontoret) who works with the project.

In addition to the benches, the city’s litter bins will also get a make-over. Around 300 will be wrapped in Pride flags. They are located along the shopping street between the central station and Triangeln as well as in Folkets Park.

In the heart of Malmö

Folkets Park has for many years been part of the local Pride festival in Malmö. In connection with Copenhagen 2021 the park takes the opportunity to gear up a notch and test new ideas that have not been possible to implement in previous years. One is the Youth Pride event which is part of the WorldPride programme. It specifically focusses on young people and offers a variety of workshops, talks and activities. There will also be art exhibitions in glass containers and boxes with works by both local and international artists in the park. Folkets Park is also one of the venues for the WorldPride Weddings in Malmö.
