Tuborgfondet is entering into a cooperation agreement with Happy Copenhagen, the organisation behind Copenhagen 2021 WorldPride and EuroGames, awarding DKK 640,000 (approx €86,000) to support the recruitment, training and workshops for the event’s volunteers, known as ‘Includers’, it has been announced today.
In August, thousands of volunteers will work at Copenhagen 2021 events providing a range of support to visitors and guests. This could include support for a disabled attendee, giving directions to visitors, developing and hosting events, helping with crowd management, or working in the event’s social media team.
Despite ongoing corona restrictions causing some events to be scaled back, Copenhagen 2021 will still be the largest LGBTI+ event ever held in Scandinavia, and volunteers will be a large part of it. The theme of Copenhagen 2021 is ‘You Are Included’, and volunteers are given the name of ‘Includers’.
Welcoming the support, Executive Managing Director of Copenhagen 2021 Benjamin Hansen said: “Tuborg Fondet’s support enables us to reach further with recruitment and training of Includers, further professionalising the project and ensuring Copenhagen and Denmark are firmly on the world’s LGBTI+ map. Includers will show the world that Denmark is a welcoming and inclusive nation where #YouAreIncluded, and our Includers will play a pivotal role in ensuring visitors are supported and welcomed whilst at the event.”
The training will cover topics such as project management volunteer management and leadership, and ensure that Includers leave the event with strengthened skills and relationships created through a committed community across age, gender, language, ethnic background and sexuality, which strengthens cohesion, integration and inclusion in society, as well as enhancing their professional resumé and future employment prospects.
Peter Giacomello, head of the Tuborg Foundation’s secretariat, said: “We are pleased to support Copenhagen 2021 and give even more young people the opportunity to participate in a community where there is great diversity and the opportunity to make an impact.”
